Local volunteer honored with Golden Hoosier Award
NEW CASTLE - Patricia Kinnett was one of 24 older adults to receive the Golden Hoosier Award from the State of Indiana at a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, September 23. The Golden Hoosier Award acknowledges outstanding Indiana senior citizens for the impact they have made on the lives of others and their community. The award is the highest honor given to a senior in Indiana.
Patricia Kinnett was one of the recipients of the LifeStream Golden Hoosier Award in June, which recognized outstanding volunteerism across LifeStream’s 12 county service area including Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph, Rush, Union, and Wayne counties. As a recipient of this award, LifeStream nominated Kinnett for the statewide Golden Hoosier Award.
Patricia Kinnett has served for over a decade with the Salvation Army and is currently the advisory board president. She is known for her smile and for brightening the days of others by networking with local businesses to provide pizza or donuts to anyone that comes for food assistance. Her volunteer spirit especially shines during the holiday season as she enthusiastically organizes and distributes masses of clothing, food boxes and gifts, as well as tallies donations from the iconic red kettles. She has also volunteered at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the New Castle-Henry County Public Library, American Red Cross and Westminster Village.
A friend remarked, “Patricia ensures no one will do without if she can help it.”
LifeStream Services relies on volunteers to assist in a variety of ways including serving meals at senior cafés, crocheting or knitting gifts for AngelWish, conducting administrative office tasks, and more.
